The Ant-Man trailer has been released, and people don't seem to be responding as well as they have with Marvel trailers in the past. The reaction to the trailer has seemed to suggest it looks "cliche" and unordinary. Does this trailer look like Marvel's first flop? I don't think so.
The more I thought about and
re-watched the trailer, it just got better and better. How cool is cliché
melodrama built up with sadness and epic music, and Paul Rudd's reaction to all
of it? "Huh?" To me this trailer sought out to be the first 30
seconds of the Guardians trailer. It starts with this cliche epic vibe and then
theres the classic line "I'm Starlord" "Who?". I think they
cut it this way with the humorous moments on purpose and I can't be more
excited with what they are going. Also, Devin Faraci from Badass Digest says this:
"Also worth noting: the
line "It's not about saving our world, it's about saving theirs,"
which speaks to the stakes of the movie - it's not an end-of-the-world riff
again, but rather about securing the future."
I think after the
scale of Age of Ultron, this suggests they are taking it back to the Iron Man 1
basics, and I LOVE that. I'm not saying this film is guaranteed to be as solid as I hope. With all the controversy, Marvel has earned our optimism. I'm just saying that they seem to be going for something new. In a genre of film that can easily do the opposite, the goal deserves all the support in the world.
